The role is responsible for the group's consolidated tax risk and reporting matters. Additionally the role is responsible for all UK direct tax and indirect tax matters, comprising tax controversy, tax reporting and forecasting, tax risk management, tax planning and tax business advisory matters.

This role is crucial, not only to Group risk and reporting matters but in working with the Head of Tax on Global tax optimization strategies including the specific strategic initiative sponsored by the Board. The role requires deep technical expertise in international and UK tax matters.

The position reports to the Group Head of Tax and is a member of the Tax Leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

Global Tax Risk Management

* Ownership of tax risk management processes, including:

* Working collaboratively with the Tax team and advisors to identify tax risks as a result of changing tax legislation, M&A projects, business development initiatives etc;
* Ensure all tax risks are appropriately assessed and quantified;
* Maintain an up to date tax risk register for the group;
* Work with the Tax team and advisors to develop tax risk mitigation plans.

* Communicate tax risk positions, and mitigation plans to key stakeholders, including Divisional FDs, Group Financial Controller, Group Accountant, CFO, Internal Audit, Audit Committee etc.
* Work with the Head of Tax to continuously improve the tax controls environment.
* Ensure compliance with external tax risk reporting obligations.

Group Tax Reporting and forecasting

* Ownership and management of half-year and year-end tax reporting processes, including:

* Continuous review and improvement of systems and processes, working with external consultants and local/ central Finance teams ;
* Reviewing tax provisions of local Finance/ Tax managers at half year and full year, working with regional Tax Directors;
* Preparation of Group consolidated tax charge and balance sheet position, including central tax adjustments e.g. UTPs, IAS 12, IAS 19, Pillar 2;
* Preparation of tax disclosures in annual statements;
* Management of tax relationship with external auditors.

* Management of tax forecasting processes, including:

* Maintenance of tax forecasting model in collaboration with FP&R team;
* Supervision of quarterly tax forecasting process;
* Utilisation of tax forecasting model to provide tax impact analysis for commercial and strategic planning projects.

UK/ International Corporate Tax

* Work with the Head of Tax on strategic tax initiatives to optimise the Group's tax position, in particular including international structuring, cash repatriation, WHT mitigation;
* Management of UK HMRC relationship;
* Management of UK corporate tax, personal tax, VAT and Customs HMRC audits;
* Management of outsourced UK corporate tax compliance;
* Management of other group corporate tax filings (including RDEC claims, DTTPs, CT61s etc);
* Management of UK tax risk identification, mitigation and reporting (including HMRC Business Risk Review, SAO);
* Provision of UK/ International tax advice to Group businesses and Treasury teams on UK/ International tax matters, including dividend payments, financing, structuring etc;
* Management and review of UK VAT filings.

To be considered for the role:

* Qualified Accountant/ Tax Professional (e.g. ACA, ATII)
* Significant experience of, and responsibility for, UK MNC consolidated tax reporting
* Detailed knowledge of IFRS, UK GAAP
* Proficiency with tax and financial reporting systems, specifically SAP and Alphatax
* Deep UK and International tax expertise, including extensive cross-border tax optimisation experience
* Thorough understanding of SOX, Senior Accounting Officer, Tax Strategy reporting requirements
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with all levels of management.
